Trained by Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr, Bews, who is named after Geelong football legend Andrew Bews, was a short priced favourite for the 1100m maiden and scored a soft length and a quarter victory for Jamie Kah.

“He’ll go to a Stakes race next start, what that is we’re not sure yet, we’ve got a couple of options,” said stable representative Ben Elam.

“He’s a colt, he’s owned by Victoria Alliance who’re obviously trying to keep these nice colts in Victoria, that’s what the syndication was made for and we’re lucky enough to train a couple for them which is really good, to kick off with a win for them is fabulous.”

A $400,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Yarraman Park draft for Victorian Alliance/Suman Hedge B'Stock (FBAA)/David Redvers Bloodstock, Bews is the first foal of stakes-placed Exceed and Excel mare Overstep, who is married to I Am Invicible and has two more colts to follow Bews and is back in foal to him again.
