Pedigree Watch – Glorious Goodwood Day 4

Tara Madgwick - Friday July 29

The Group II King George Stakes (5f) for the sprinters was the highlight at Goodwood overnight and victory went to the speedy Dark Angel six year-old Khaadem, who was last seen at Royal Ascot when he lost his rider at the start and then finished second to Nature Strip in the G1 King’s Stand Stakes.

Trained by Charlie Hills, who prepared brilliant sprinter Battaash to win this race four times, Khaadem produced a career best performance to score a neck win in a slick 56.46 seconds.

"He's getting faster with age," said Hills.

"He's taken a while and he's quirky, but he's also very talented. He took it in his stride. He's matured and improved with age.

"We've had so many good memories in this race and Battaash was such a star. It's only been a year since he was retired, but it feels like a lifetime ago. To have horses running well and winning big races here is amazing."

By the same sire as Battaash, Khaadem was an expensive yearling purchase for Shadwell, secured for 750,000 guineas from the 2017 Tattersalls October Book 1 Yearling Sale, but now runs for Mrs Fitri Hay.

He is a full brother to stakes-winner Log Out Island and is from White Daffodil, a half-sister to stakes-winner Lady Links, grand-dam of Group III winner Hit the Bid and this year’s stakes-winner Ruthin.

He is one of 87 stakes-winners worldwide for Dark Angel.

The Group III Thoroughbred Stakes (1m) was won by progressive German trained Time Test colt Rocchighiani, who scored by three-quarters of a length.

Already a Group III winner in Germany, Rocchighiani has won three of seven starts and is a half-brother to stakes-winner Ross from stakes-winner Ronja.

He is one of five stakes-winners for Dubawi stallion Time Test, who shuttles to Little Avondale in New Zealand.

The Group III Glorious Stakes (1m4f) saw Godolphin homebred Rebel’s Romance win by a length as favourite.

Trained by Charlie Appleby, the four year-old Dubawi gelding won the Group II UAE Derby last year and has won six of nine starts.

He is the best of three winners from stakes-placed Street Cry mare Minidress, a sister to Group III winner Volcanic Sky.

The Dubawi x Street Cry nick has produced 15 winners from 17 starters highlighted by four stakes-winners so runs at 23.5% SW to runner.
