Better Winsome Makes it 25 for Better Than Ready

Mark Smith - Friday July 29

Better Than Ready gained much-needed breathing space in the race for the leading sire of individual 2yo winners when the Chris Anderson-trained Better Winsome landed a plunge in breaking her maiden over 800m at Ipswich on Friday.

Given a positive ride by Stephanie Thornton from an outside barrier, Better Winsome received little peace but still found enough to defeat the Kobayashi gelding Kobe Lad by a half-neck with the Defcon filly Radiant Queen a length back in third.

Part-owned by rugby league legend Allen ‘Alfie’ Langer, Better Winsome had been runner-up at her previous two starts at Gatton and Warwick.

The daughter of Better Than Ready was bought by Chris Anderson Racing/Steve Morley Bloodstock for $70,000 from the Lyndhurst Stud Farm draft at the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale.

She is the second winner from three to race out of Ultimate Rush (Sequalo), a Brisbane-winning sister to Burdekin Blues, whose eleven wins included the Group II STC Expressway Stakes, Group III BRC George Moore Stakes, and Listed VRC Century Stakes.

Better Winsome is the 25th individual 2yo winner for Better Than Ready this season.

That is two clear of Spirit Of Boom as we count down the final few days of the season.
