Price's 5YO late starter to debut at Echuca Monday

Brad Waters - Monday October 2

Rarely does Mick Price debut a five-year-old stallion but the Caulfield trainer will do that at Monday's Echuca meeting.

Price will run Langhro in the De Bortoli Wines Maiden Plate (1000m) after the son of Lonhro arrived at his stable from the Gold Coast earlier this year.

The well-bred Langhro is a half-brother to the Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Real Surreal and Queensland stakes winner Benny's Buttons.

"He had a tendon (injury) early and I only got him for this prep and he has trained right on through," Price said.

"The people that own him are very good showjumpers and are good friends of my wife and they have their own pre-training place at Logan on the Gold Coast."

Langhro showed he had the talent to notch a first-up win with a sharp jumpout at Caulfield on September 19 in which he accelerated quickly when coming from behind the leaders to win the heat.

"His jumpout was excellent and he's not a bad horse," Price said.

"I think if he behaves himself and concentrates, he can win.

"He has shown enough ability that he can got there and win but it's just that he's a five-year-old bull."

Jake Noonan, who ride Langhro in his last trial, will be aboard the horse at Echuca.

Sportsbet has tightened Langhro's quote from $2.30 to $2 on race morning to have him as a clear favourite ahead of the Brendan McCarthy-trained Ruth's Boy at $4.80.
