Part Two is dealing with the more proven guys!

FOURTH SEASON

Harry Angel (IRE) is on his own in this category and it can be a tricky year for any sire as they have just had their first crop of yearlings sell and now it’s a matter of sit and wait.

Harry Angel (IRE)

Invariably for a young sire that gets a few early results at the official 2YO trials there will be an influx of bookings and for the rest it’s about keeping the faith.

Harry Angel was the Champion European 3YO Sprinter and his yearlings sold for up to $460,000 this year with 50 plus selling at an overall average just shy of $130,000.

He’s the first son of Dark Angel to stand at stud here and has already got runners in Europe with six winners from 31 starters to date headed by Group II placed Vicious Harry.

FIFTH SEASON

These are the guys who have had their first 2YO’s run this season and we have a few to consider.

Pariah

To this point in time, Pariah has done best of the trio with four winners from 29 starters headed by Group II winner Swiss Exile and stakes-placed Vagrant and Runaway Belle.

The second crop of yearlings by Pariah sold for up to $280,000 this year.

Menari

Menari has had well documented fertility issues and has relocated from Newgate to Corumbene Stud where he was bred. He has sired four winners from nine runners with metro winners Green Shadows and Menari Magic his best.

The second crop of yearlings by Menari sold for up to $350,000 this year.

Highland Reel (IRE)

Given his profile as a staying son of Galileo that achieved his best results at four and five over 2000 to 2400m, it’s no surprise that Highland Reel is still looking for his first Australian winner although has had four place-getters from 13 to race.

His oldest European progeny are 3YO’s and include 27 winners headed by Group II winner Atamisque.

The second Australian crop of yearlings by Highland Reel sold for up to $180,000 this year.

PROVEN SIRES

There’s a mix here offering some great value in the quest to breed a winner and a grand old sire like Magnus still going great guns even though he’s turning 20 this year.

Magnus has sired 112 winners this season.

For a breeder looking for some classic stamina, Kermadec represents the might of the Galileo sireline through his champion son Teofilo and should not be underestimated.

Headwater and Pride of Dubai are the two leading third crop sires with progeny earnings this season topping $5million.

Divine Prophet, whose oldest progeny are three year-olds has had two stakes-winners this season and both are Group winning juveniles in Promitto and See You in Heaven.

Smart Missile has had three stakes-winners this year headed by his speedy daughter Ballistic Lover, who sold for $1million at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale this year. He has big crops of rising two and three year-olds so expect this Group I producing sire to be resurgent over the next couple of seasons.

Stakes-winners are worldwide from August 1, 2021.
