Kitten's Joy Mare Frumos Goes Three for Three

Mark Smith - Saturday July 16

Following the news of the death of Ramsey Farm's outstanding stallion Kitten’s Joy, his daughter Frumos (USA)  provided a fitting eulogy at Rosehill on Saturday.

Orbis Bloodstock looks to have a future stakes winner in the American-bred mare, who made it three from three with a last to first performance over 1400m.

Willie Pike rode the daughter of Kitten’s Joy for luck, which she received in spades. Slicing through the field with an uninterrupted run, Frumos (USA) defeated her Chris Waller-trained stablemate Sur La Mer (Nicconi) by two and a quarter lengths with One Aye (Super One) a half-length back in third.

Frumos (USA) came to the race off two bloodless wins at Newcastle.

“She’s come a long way in a short time,” Waller said.

“Two provincial wins, going through her grades, gaining confidence, then coming to a Saturday race with the great Australian prizemoney on offer. It’s a windfall for the owners.

“She has a bright future. It’s a great time of year for horses like this. If they have that exceptional ability, it makes up for ringcraft, which she is gaining against handy horses. Having that extra gear helps.”

Bred by Ken Ramsey,  Frumos (USA) was a €220,000 purchase for David Simcock Racing from the Grove Stud draft at the 2020 Tattersalls Ireland Goresbridge Breeze-Up Sale.

By the perennial champion US turf sire Kitten’s Joy (El Prado), Frumos (USA) is a daughter of the 4-time winner Desertstormelite (Chester House), a  half-sister to stakes winner Enduring Will (Arch).

Granddam Jodie Faster spent her latter years in Australia. She was the daughter of Gr III winner Vivano whose Gr 1 placings included the Frizette Stakes, Gazelle stakes, Beldame Stakes, Matron Stakes and Shuvee Hcp.
