Ingham Family Homebred Waverider Buoy Gets the Cash

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday July 13

The world’s best sprinter Nature Strip is not the only Nicconi in the Chris Waller stable with promising two year-old filly Waverider Buoy opening her account at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

A homebred for the Ingham family related to their Group I winning filly Fangirl, Waverider Buoy was second at her first start at Rosehill back in November before being given time to mature.

Turned up with two recent trials, she went to the post as favourite for the 1100m maiden and always looked the winner for Willie Pike.

She travelled smoothly in the lead and gave a good kick down the running before holding on to win by a neck.

“She raced as a pre-Christmas 2YO and has always shown us good ability,” said stable representative Damien Fitton.

“It’s great to get a win on the board for the Ingham family.

“She travelled well and was too good on the day.”

Foaled and raised at Coolmore for the Ingham family, Waverider Buoy is the first winner from Catch a Wave, a placed half-sister by Fasnet Rock to their Group I ATC Vinery Stud Stakes winner Fangirl from stakes-winner Little Surfer Girl.

Catch a Wave was on-sold by the Ingham family back in 2020 at the Inglis Broodmare Sale for $75,000 to Paul Moroney Bloodstock and was covered last spring by Ole Kirk.

Nicconi is the sire of promising 2YO Waverider Buoy.

Waverider Buoy has the pedigree and talent to suggest more wins are in store for the daughter of Nicconi, who stands at Widden Stud Victoria this spring at a fee of $22,000.
