Winning Debut for Snitzel's Alberich

Mark Smith - Wednesday June 22

The Chris Waller-trained Alberich became the 16th two-year-old winner of the season for Snitzel when making a winning debut over 1250m at Canterbury on Wednesday.

Ridden by Chad Schofield, Alberich wobbled around the turn before overpowering another Snitzel debutant, Arch Of Titus, by two lengths with the Lonhro gelding Yoshino a further two lengths back in third.

Highlighted on Breednet following his barrier trial win at Rosehill on June 7, the gelded son of Snitzel has plenty more to offer, according to stable representative Charlie Duckworth.

“That was a really nice win. When he began so well, chad used initiative and rolled further forward than we planned,” Duckworth said.

“It is rare that ours come to the races off the back of one trial. We were going to scratch until the race fell away.

”He is forward enough and knows his job, so we brought him to the races to find out what he could do.

“We will see what Chad says and what the boss man back in the office wants to do. I imagine he probably has a couple in him before sending him out, or we can call it a day for the prep. He is a little light in condition, so whether he spells and starts again in the spring or pokes away through winter, we will work it out.”

Consigned by his breeder, Gooree Park Stud, Alberich was pinhooked by Frankie Stockdale for $80,000 at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale. That put him in the bottom three least expensive yearlings for the year by Snitzel.

Reoffered by Stockdale at the 2021 Inglis Ready2Race Sale, Alberich was a $170,000 purchase for G & C Pastoral.

Alberich a $170,000 Inglis R2R purchase

He is the second winner from as many to race out of the Mizzen Mast mare Seeking (USA), a half-sister to Grade II winner Nefertini (Empire Maker) and Listed winner In The Navy Now (Midshipman).

Gooree purchased Seeking (USA) for $220,000 from the Vinery draft at the 2017 National broodmare Sale when carrying a Tapit colt.

Seeking (USA) has a yearling colt by American Pharoah (USA), a weanling filly by Lonhro and was covered by Extreme Choice last spring.
