Deep Field's Field Of Praise Impresses on Debut

Mark Smith - Wednesday June 22

The Ben and JD Hayes-trained Deep Field filly Field Of Praise made an impressive career debut at Cranbourne on Wednesday when coming with a sweeping run from near the tail of the field to land the Security123 Maiden Plate (1200m).

Ridden by Blaike McDougall, Field Of Praise defeated the Churchill (IRE) filly Tanto by one and a half lengths with a further three-quarter length back to the Toronado (IRE) filly Corner Off in third.

“There is a lot of water in the track, and it’s quite heavy, but she got through the conditions,” McDougall told Racing.com.

“She began only fair, so I gave her a chance to relax behind them, gave her plenty of room in the straight, and she got the job done.

“She’s a naturally athletic horse; there’s not a lot of her, but she has a turn of foot, and it was a good effort.”

A $60,000 pinhook out of the Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm draft at the 2020 Inglis Australian Weanling Sale, the daughter of Deep Field made $180,000 to the bid of Lindsay Park Racing when offered by Blue Gum Farm at the 2021 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.

Finnis Lodge bought a Merchant Navy filly out of Odelia for $85,000 from the Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm at the 2022 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.

After missing in 2020, Odelia was covered by Toronado (IRE) last spring.

Field Of Praise is the 12th 2yo winner of the season for Newgate Farm’s Deep Field.
