Popular Win for Spirit Of Milan

Mark Smith - Wednesday June 15

There was some welcomed good news for trainer Danny Bougoure when the Spirit Of Boom filly Spirit Of Milan made a hugely impressive career debut in the Racecourse Village Maiden Plate (1100m) at Doomben on Wednesday.

Due to vacate his Eagle Farm stables next month, Bougoure had Spirit Of Milan primed for her debut,

With James Orman in the saddle, Spirit Of Milan put the race to bed at the 200m. She defeated the Rubick filly Six Sides by three-quarters of a length, with The Mission filly Mission Of love a length and a half back in third.

“She is a lovely Spirit Of Boom filly who trialled up nicely. She did everything perfectly, has been well educated, and another great ride by Jimmy Orman,” Bougoure said.

“I think this filly will get a bit further with time. This was a good education for her today, and she can only improve.

“She has some nice breeding there and will be better as a 3yo, but it is nice to get a run or two into her as a late 2yo.”

Dan Bougoure Racing purchased Spirit Of Milan for $100,000 from the draft of her breeder, Daandine Stud, at the 2021 Magic Millions March Yearling Sale.

She is the third winner from four to race out of the Snitzel mare Miss Milanese.

Purchased by Ingham racing for $460,000 as a yearling, Miss Milanese won a Canterbury maiden in 17 starts.

Consigned by Yarraman Park Stud to the 2017 National Broodmare Sale, Miss Milanese was knocked down to Boomer Bloodstock (FBAA)/Daandine Stud for $300,000.

Ellerton Racing purchased a Rubick filly out of Miss Milanese for $110,000 at the Magic Millions in January.

It would not have gone unnoticed by Danny Bougoure that Miss Milanese is a sister to Bougoure’s Group III winner and Magic Millions 2yo Classic runner-up Oakleigh Girl, a daughter of Group 1 VATC Oakleigh Plate heroine Miss Kournikova (Mr Greeley).

Miss Milanese has a weanling colt by Deep Field and was covered by Spirit Of Boom last spring.

Spirit Of Milan is the 16th 2yo winner of the season for Spirit Of Boom.

The Eureka Stud resident is chasing Better Than Ready, who took his total to 18 when the Toby and Trent Edmonds-trained Corfe Castle opened his winning account in the colts and gelding division at Doomben.
