Snitzel Filly Stroll Strikes in Bill Carter Stakes

Mark Smith - Saturday June 4

A $450,000 daughter of Snitzell, Stroll is, by some way, the most significant investment made by Jamie Walter's Proven Thoroughbreds.

Some of the pressure may have been relieved with her breeder Gerry Harvey retaining an interest. But there is no doubt she is now worth every cent after earning valuable-black type in Saturday's Listed City Property Services Bill Carter Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm.

Given a patient ride by Willie Pike, the Steven O'Dea and Matt Hoysted-trained filly overpowered the $475,000 Spirit Of Boom filly Bezique by three-quarters of a length with her stablemate Honey Pot, also by Spirit Of Boom, a short-half-head back in third.

"She's a filly we've always had a big opinion of, Matt Hoysted said. "Nothing went right last start. She got into a bad position off a slow speed on a wet track. It is great to see her finally get on top of the track today.

"Originally, she was going to run in this race two weeks ago with the plan to get her to the JJ Atikins.

“When it was called off, that changed our plans, and we were happy to run her here again and probably save her for another three weeks when there is another 1400 metre stakes race here.

"The preparation has been all about getting a bit of prize money behind her. She's a Magic Millions filly that they paid big money with Proven Thoroughbreds, and getting that stakes win very early on in the campaign is a really big effort. We now we can look forward to target her to a three-year-old Magic Millions (race)."

"When she can quicken, she's got such a big stride and she really lengthens. It was a ten-out-of-ten ride from Willie. He was very smart early navigating to pop off the fence and was following the right horse."

Proven Thoroughbreds/O'Dea Hoysted Racing shelled out $450,000 for the daughter of Snitzel from the Baramul Stud draft at the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

From the incomparable Eight Carat family, Stroll is the first foal of the city-placed Street Cry (IRE) mare Walk The Streets, a half-sister to stakes-placed Sebrakate (Sebring) and Quattro Katie (Zoustar) out of dual Listed stakes winner Kakakakatie (Zeditave).

Walk In The Streets has a yearling sister to Stroll and a weanling colt by Zosustar. She visited Zoustar again last spring.

Stroll is the 122nd stakes-winner, and the fourth two-year-old stakes-winner of the season for Snitzel, who is chasing Rebel Dane for the juvenile title.
