Second Stakes Win in May for Pride Of Dubai's Splendiferous

Mark Smith - Saturday May 28

It was a torturous final 100m for supporters of the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Splendiferous in the Group III Living Turf Premier's Cup (2400m) at Eagle Farm.

Leading from the front under Tim Clark, the 4yo daughter of Pride Of Dubai clung to the narrowest margin over the 10yo Dylan Thomas (IRE) gelding Sweet Thomas.

The New Zealander The Fearless One (The Bold One) was a short-neck back in third.

The winner of the Listed Morphettville Port Adelaide Cup (2500m) and fourth in last year's Group 1 Queensland Oaks, Splendiferous advances her record to six wins, a second, and a third from 16 starts with earnings of $421,455.

"She was out on her feet there late," Bott said

"I must admit I got a little bit distracted mid-race, so I only picked them up from the 600m. It was obviously unfortunate circumstances there (with Steel Prince collapsing shortly after the start), but she was put into the race and kicked clear, so it was good to see her hold on. It was a good, tough win.

"We’ll look at the (Brisbane) Cup now that she’s up there. She seems to thrive this time of the year. She’s a mare in form and a mare that can stay, so it’s certainly got to be considered.”

A $100,000 Magic Millions purchase for James Bester Bloodstock from the Aquis Farm draft, Splendiferous is a half-sister to Group III winner Ballistic Boy who finished second in the Group III Lord Mayors Cup, the race following the Premiers Cup.

They are two of four winners from as many to race from Magical Mist, a metro winning half-sister by High Chaparral to Group I winner Distill and Group I placed stakes-winner Mr Tipsy.

Magical Mist was a $60,000 purchase for Twin Hills / G1 Goldmine at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale in 2020.

Byerley Turk Equine/Lewis Banaghan/Lindsay Gough Racing. Shelled out $50,000 for Magical Mist colt by Performer at the 2022 MM Gold Coast Yearling Sale

Magical Mist was covered last spring by Smart Missile.
