Status Quo for The Oaks Stud

Media Release - Wednesday May 25

It’s a case of status quo for The Oaks Stud for the upcoming breeding season.

The Cambridge farm will once again stand a roster that includes Darci Brahma, U S Navy Flag, Roc De Cambes, and Niagara, with their fees remaining the same.

Darci Brahma

Darci Brahma has had another solid year at stud and enjoyed the success of his daughter Sierra Sue who was victorious in the Gr.1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) and Gr.1 Futurity Stakes (1400m).

“Darci Brahma had another great year. He had the biggest book he has had for about eight years last year with 124 mares,” The Oaks Stud General Manager Rick Williams said.

“Sierra Sue has now won two Group Ones and her second one, in my view, was against the best in the land (Mo’unga). She is a hell of a mare.”

Darci Brahma will stand for an unchanged fee of $15,000+GST.

Williams is also excited about the return of shuttle stallion U S Navy Flag, who will stand for a fee of $15,000 +GST.

“We have just finished negotiating to get U S Navy Flag back. Coolmore would like us to take him again, so we have agreed on a deal in principle.

“He will be coming out with those other shuttle stallions at the end of July. He has made a wonderful start in Europe.

“I understand he is going to cover upwards of 150 mares in the northern hemisphere, which will be his biggest book.

“He has got some pretty promising two-year-olds.”

Williams said he has received a positive response from breeders about U S Navy Flag ahead of the breeding season.

“There has been a lot of interest in him this year,” he said. The interest has been from the people who have already used him in New Zealand, they want to come back, so that is a positive.

The Oaks Stud’s remaining two stallions, Niagara and Roc De Cambes, will stand for unchanged fees of $5,000+GST.
