Akeed Mofeed's The Amazonian Puts Them to the Sword in SA Fillies Classic

Trainers Mick Price and Michel Kent Jnr and jockey Mark Zahra are having a day out at Morphettville.

After Maximillius scored a narrow win in the Group III David Coles Stakes, the 3yo Akeed Mofeed filly The Amazonian had a much easier time in the Group III SA Fillies Classic (2500m).

A close-up third behind Daisies and Bon's A Pearla in the Group III Alexandra Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley in March, The Amazonian looked in a class of her own in defeating the War Chant filly Lady Chant by three and three-quarter lengths.

The Redoute's Choice filly Great Mystery was a neck back in third.

With her first stakes success, The Amazonian advances her record to three wins, two seconds and three thirds from ten starts with earnings of $236,520.

Price said it was Zahra's idea to ride the filly more forward as he felt there was a lot of runners making up the numbers.

"That was a very good ride, one out one back from an outside barrier," Price said.

"I think we have found a natural staying filly.

"We bought her here, so it was beautiful to get a Group III win.

"There is plenty of horse left there, so I will check what's  (in Queensland) for her.  

“We will think about that, but the main thing is she is a nice staying prospect.”

Bred by Goldin Australia, The Amazonian was a $140,000 purchase for Suman Hedge Bloodstock (FBAA)/Mick Price Racing from the Goldin Farm draft at the 2020 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale.

A sister to stakes-placed Sunset Watch, she is one of four winners from five to race out of the stakes-placed Snitzel mare Saramenha.

Goldin Farms purchased Saramenha for $240,000 at the 2014 National Broodmare Sale.

She is a half-sister to nine winners, including the Singapore Stewards' Cup winner In Bloom (Brocco).  

Roger Cooksley bought a brother to The Amazonian for $13,000 from the Goldin Farms draft at the 2022 Magic Million Adelaide Yearling Sale.

Tragically, Saramenha’s colt foal by Grunt died after birth last spring, and she missed to Doubtland.

Akeed Mofeed (GB) returned to Goldin Farm at Angaston in 2021, where he covered just two mares.

The Amazonian becomes the third stakes winner for the son of Dubawi.
