Enable Unstoppable in King George

Mark Smith - Sunday July 30

Hveger's sons Idaho and Highland Reel could do no better than third and fourth in Saturday's G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot as Khalid Abdullah's Epsom Oaks and Irish Oaks heroine Enable emerged from the gloom under Frankie Dettori to dominate over the final two furlongs.

In doing so she emulated her sire Nathaniel (Galileo) who won the race six years ago.

Run in atrocious conditions, Enable sat close to the pace set by Maverick Wave.

Making full use of Enable's pull in the weights, Dettori set Enable to an all out drive a long way from home. It was left to the Group I Eclipse Stakes winner Ulysses (Galileo) to do the chasing but he could get no closer than four and a half-lengths on the line with a further three-quarter of a length back to a game Idaho (Galileo) who edged out his brother and defending champion Highland Reel for third.

"I lost 7lb in six days, but it was worth it. She is a superstar," Dettori told Sporting Life.

"It means a lot to me, I missed the whole of Royal Ascot (with injury) and to come back to the place I love so much, it's great.

"She's as good as I've ridden, to win the King George by four lengths, she is the real deal and I love her so much. I'll have a big dinner tonight, that's for sure!"

Winning trainer John Gosden said the first crop daughter of Nathaniel is as good as he has trained.

"The facts show she can do it on any ground," Gosden said.

Frankie was bold. She breaks well and is very business-like. It wasn't the plan to be that close, but she was getting weight from the older horses.

"I thought Ulysses made a brave run at her and I thought Maverick Wave did a beautiful job pacemaking. All in all she's as good a filly as I've ever trained - Taghrooda was brilliant to win this and she's following Dahlia and Pawneese.

"I've always planned the Yorkshire Oaks, then pause, stop and think - no trials and then possibly the one in Paris (Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe)."

From the first crop of Galileo's King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes and Eclipse Stakes winner Nathaniel, Enable is out of the stakes winning Sadler's Wells mare Concentric who is a sister to Group II Prix de Royallieu winner Dance Routine the dam of Khalid Abdullah's globe-trotting star Flintshire (Dansili).
