Deep Impact's Glint Of Hope (JPN) Triumphs in a Thrilling Australasian Oaks

Mark Smith - Saturday April 30

The only time the royally-bred Deep Impact (JPN) filly Glint Of Hope (JPN) missed a place came in the VRC Oaks last spring. That was a distant memory when a Daniel Moor special paved the way for a maiden stakes win in Saturday’s $502,000 Group 1 Grand Syndications Australasian Oaks (2000m) at Morphettville.

Moor never went around a horse on the Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young-trained filly.

The daughter of Deep Impact (IRE) kept up a relentless gallop to defeat the admirably brave Rebel Raider filly Barb Raider by a head, with the favoured Frankel filly My Wisper a further long-head back in third.

Bred by Raffles Dancers, Glint Of Hope (JPN) advances her record to two wins, three seconds, and three thirds from nine starts, with earnings of $406,170.

After recently undergoing her final round of chemotherapy for breast cancer, Natalie Young celebrated being reunited with her mother for the first time in four years.

"It’s amazing. We gave Daniel Moor his first group 1 winner, and we are so glad he is back from Hong Kong,” Young said.

“He never went around a horse – rode him an absolute treat.

‘”He got on the back of Jamie Kah on My Whisper, and those were really his only instructions. He has been a crucial member of our team of late. We couldn’t be happier.

“She is a Deep Impact, so she has great residual value after winning a Group 1 Oaks.

“She can be a bit temperamental at home. She has her moments and is sometimes is a little hard to catch

“It is fantastic to Mr Hosaka and her Japanese connections who entrusted us after Tagaloa, another Japanese bred Group 1 winner.

“One in seven women get breast cancer, it’s not something we shouldn’t be talking about.

“I think it’s important to keep going, - going to the stable has got me through that tough time.

“My mum is here today, I haven’t seen her in four years,’’

Glint Of Hope a $250,000 Inglis Easter Yearling

Consigned by Bhima Thoroughbreds to the 2020 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Glint Of Hope (JPN) was purchased by Asrun for $250,000.

Bred in Japan to southern hemisphere time. Glint Of Hope (USA) has a serious Oaks pedigree and is the best of two winners from as many to race out of the imported Fastnet Rock mare Sacred Sight, a half-sister to Group 1 Prix de Cadran and Group II Goodwood Cup winner Colour Vision (Rainbow Quest).

Glint Of Hope is the 185th black-type winner for the late, great Deep Impact (JPN).
