Written Tycoon's Egyptian Tycoon Makes Winning Debut

Mark Smith - Monday April 25

Three-year-old Written Tycoon gelding Egyptian Tycoon made a winning start to his career in the Rabaul, New Guinea Maiden Plate (1100m) at Randwick-Kensington on Anzac Day.

Ridden by Jean Van Overmeire, the John Sargent-trained gelding stalked the early speed, found an immediate response when asked for the supreme effort, and found the line strongly.

Well supported after two solid barrier trials, Egyptian Tycoon defeated another debutant, the Warrior Reward (USA) filly Valentina Express, by a length and a half, with the Kermadec gelding Huon a short-half-head back in third.

Sargent said there is plenty of upside to the son of Written Tycoon.

“He’s a lovely horse. He is very laid back at home, on the track, and in his trials. But he showed today he has something there,” Sargent said.

“With his attitude, he should get a bit further; I don’t think he is just a sprinting type, but it’s a good way to kick off Anzac Day.

‘It’s onwards and upwards with this horse, and I hope he can carry on. They are a new set of owners, and it’s good to get a win for them.”

Consigned by Woodside Park Stud to the 2020 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, Egyptian Tycoon was a $50,000 purchase for Rick Connolly Bloodstock.

He is the second winner from as many to race out of the Shamardal (USA) mare Sitkamose.

A winner at Kyneton in three starts for Mark Kavanagh, Sitkamose is a half-sister to stakes-placed Renewed Vitality and the Redoute’s Choice mare Nina From Pasadena, dam of Group 1 ATC Champagne Stakes winner Pasadena Girl (Savabeel).

This is the family descending from their Meon Valley Stud’s hugely influential Reprocolor.

Sitkamose was a $230,000 purchase by Belmont Bloodstock Agency (FBAA) at the 2016 National Broodmare Sale.

Owned by Barry McRostie, the daughter of Shamardal has a 2yo Cable Bay (IRE) colt, weanling Dundeel filly, and was covered by Russian Camelot (IRE) last spring.
