Denise's Joy Stakes Possible for Rubinocchi

Mark Smith - Wednesday April 20

Joe Pride will look at the Listed Denise's Joy Stakes (1100m) at Scone for Rubinocchi after the fleet-footed daughter of Rubick trotted up by four and a half lengths Palace Pier New @ Darley (1100m) at Canterbury on Wednesday.

Sam Clipperton made his attentions clear early, driving the filly to the front, and she never looked back.

Keeping up a relentless gallop in the straight, Rubinocchi defeated the Defcon filly Rapid Response, with the Lonhro colt Broken Hill a further one and a quarter length back in third.

The Proven Thoroughbreds colour-bearer advances her record to $101,485 to three wins and two seconds from eight starts with earnings of $101,485.

"Sam summed it up before the race. He said that there is no second-guessing yourself from those wide barriers," Pride said.

Rubinocchi a $45,000 Inglis Classic yearling

"She wasn't herself in the summer. We gave her a little summer preparation, but she looked a bit dull in the coat. You quite often see fillies not handling the heat. So, after three runs, we put her aside and brought her back with a late autumn-winter campaign in mind.

"We are very happy the way she has come back, and the guys have had a bit of fun with her already. She has won as a 2yo, and I think she will keep getting better.

"The race at Scone is some temptation, being a 3yo fillies Listed race.

She won't get many chances to run in those kind of races."

A $15,000 pinhook by Mullaglass from the Fairhill Farm draft at the 2019 Inglis Australian Weanling Sale, Rubinocchi was knocked down to Proven Thoroughbreds / Joe Pride Racing for $45,000 when consigned by Valiant Stud to the 2020 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

She is the second winner from as many foals for the Chosir mare Tiger Eyes who struck four consecutive wins for trainer Matthew Dale and placed at Warwick Farm.

A half-sister to stakes-winner Speedy Leo (Nadeem), Tiger Eyes descends from the family of Golden Slipper winner Star Watch.

Maluka Thoroughbreds bought a Shooting To Win filly out of Tiger Eyes for $10,000 at the 2021 Inglis Australian Weanling Sale.

Not served in 2020, Tiger Eyes visited Prague last spring.
