The Group III Mannerism Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday was won in style by progressive mare Flying Mascot, who highlighted a nick we have come to associate with Karaka.

Flying Mascot is by Tavistock from a daughter of Zabeel - image Grant Courtney

A four year--old mare by Tavistock, Flying Mascot has won over $400,000 in prizemoney with her best years still to come and is one of 12 stakes-winners for her sire bred from daughters of Zabeel.

The nick runs at 11.6% SW to runners with four G1 winners bred this way in Werther, Toffee Tongue, Tarzino and Johnny Get Angry.

There is just the one yearling to be offered at Karaka 2022 bred this way and it’s Lot 67 from Cambridge Stud, a colt from Ziffel, a half-sister to Group II Silver Slipper winner Amelia’s Dream from the family of Group I winner Grand Zulu.

Lot 67

The family has already worked with Tavistock to produce G1 placed Young Werther, a winner of over $850,000 in prizemoney.

The Pierro x Redoute’s Choice nick is extremely well known and produced a new winner for the Peter Moody stable on Saturday with well bred filly Rebel’s Choice winning on debut at Yarra Glen.

She carried the Cambridge Stud colours to victory and will be well worth following when she comes to town.

The nick runs at 19.5% SW to runners with G1 winners Arcadia Queen, Regal Power, Levendi and HK Derby winner Furore all bred this way.

Lot 516

There is one yearling to be offered at Karaka and it is Lot 516 from Jamieson Park, a Pierro filly from Rare Delight, a full sister to stakes-winner Tranquility from the family of Group I winning sprinter Booker and Banquo, who stands at Waikato Stud.

Champion sires Not a Single Doubt and More Than Ready (USA) have proven a formidable combination and while you might expect to find this nick at Australian sales there is one yearling at Karaka bred this way.

It runs at 16.6 % SW to runner with dual G1 winner Miracles of Life the highlight horse bred this way.

Lot 486

The Karaka entry bred this way is Lot 486 from Westbury Stud, a filly bred by Gerry Harvey, who tasted Group I success as a breeder on Saturday when Mascarpone won the G1 WFA Classic at Otaki.

This Not a Single Doubt filly is the second foal from Perform a Miracle, a placed More Than Ready mare, whose third dam is stakes-winning blue hen St Klaire, the dam of G1 winners Bonanova, Fraternity and Telesto.
