Glass Harmonium's Aurora's Symphony Dominant in Launceston Cup

Mark Smith - Wednesday February 23

Benefitting from a picture-perfect Harry Coffey ride, the admirably consistent Glass Harmonium (IRE) gelding Aurora's Symphony scored a dominant win in Wednesday’s $250,000 Group III Launceston Cup (2400m).

Trained at Warrnambool by Symon Wilde, Aurora's Symphony defeated the Hobart Cup winner Ho Ho Kham (Makfi) by one and a half lengths with The Risk Factor The Factor) a half-length back in third.

Coming off a win in the Colac Cup, Aurora's Symphony has not been further back than third in his last five starts.

A 5yo gelding, Aurora's Symphony advances his record to six wins, five seconds and five thirds from 23 starts with earnings of $369,065.

“He did a fantastic job and it was a great ride by Harry, stable representative Pat Kearney said.

“It is a great team effort from the team at Warrnambool and Ballarat, we are ecstatic to be here.

“We were originally heading to the (abandoned) Great Western Cup, and we found this race here and thought it was perfect for him.”

A $40,000 purchase by Wilde Racing from the Blue Gum Farm draft at the 2018 Inglis VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale, Aurora's Symphony is a half-brother to stakes-placed Smokin' Val (Valentia).

A second consecutive Launceston Cup for Glass Harmonium

She is out of the unraced Fantastic Light (IRE) mare, Aurora's Hot, a half-sister to Group 1 Sydney Cup winner Niwot (Galileo).

Bought by Meduri Bloodstock for $18,000 at the 2019 Inglis Great Southern Sale, Aurora's Hot has a 2yo filly by Highland Reel (IRE), a yearling brother to Aurora's Symphony and a colt foal by Highland Reel (IRE). She was covered by Kermadec last spring.

Aurora's Symphony becomes the second stakes winner for the Group 1 VRC Mackinnon Stakes winner Glass Harmonium (IRE) whose first was Glass Warrior who won the Launceston Cup 12 months ago.
