Tough Speed's Take The Sit Claims the Vamos Stakes

Mark Smith - Wednesday February 23

Sporting the same colours carried to victory by Still A Star last year, the Bill Ryan-trained Take The Sit powered to a maiden stakes success in the Group III Armidale Stud Vamos Stakes (1400m) at Launceston.

A fourth win in the race for Brendon McCoull, the 5yo daughter of Tough Speed (USA) defeated the Leon and Troy Corstens-trained Pride Of Dubai mare Estoril Park by a length and a half.

Estoril Park’s bettered fancied stalemate Yes Baby Yes (Dissident) was a nose back in third.

Take The Sit made her 2022 debut at her previous start when a troubled eighth in the Bow Mistress (1200m) at Hobart on February 11.  She was caught wide the trip that day but had a much more energy saving trip from an inside barrier in the Vamos.

With her first stakes win, Take The Sit advances her record to seven wins and four seconds from 18 starts with earnings of $236,776.

Take The Sit $15,000 well spent at the Tasmanian Magic Millions

“She has a good barrier this time and 1400m is her favourite distance,” Ryan’s daughter Monica said.

“Dad would have just about fallen off the couch, he would be ecstatic.

“Dad and Brendan have had great success together and this is just fantastic after Still A star last year.

“They are a great team of owners and it is good for them to get a win like that.”

Bred, raised and sold by the race sponsor Armidale Stud, Take The Sit was purchased by her trainer for just $15,000 at the 2018 Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale.

She is the lone winner from three to race from the 5-time winning Lago Delight mare Tula a half-sister to Listed Tasmanian Guineas winner Brainpower.

Will Clarken/Suman Hedge Bloodstock (FBAA)/David Jolly went to $70,000 to purchase Tula’s Alpine Eagle colt at 2021 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale. He has been named hit The Slopes.

After foaling a Tough Speed last spring, Tula was covered by Alpine Eagle.

Take The Sit is the sixth black-type winner for Armidale Stud stalwart Tough Speed (USA).

The son of Miswaki covered nine mares at his 18th season at stud last spring
