Maher Swoops on $500,000 Fastnet Rock Filly

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday February 8

There were only two yearlings by champion sire to be offered at Inglis Classic and both fillies came up on the final day of trade with Ciaron Maher Bloodstock securing the well bred pair.

$500,000 Fastnet Rock filly from Fiorentina

Consigned by Coolmore, the filly from Fiorentina was bought for $500,000 by Ciaron Maher Bloodstock in partnership with Australian Bloodstock / Lustre Lodge and was the most expensive yearling sold in the last session of Book 1 on Tuesday.

The star filly is a half-sister to Group I winner and $1.1million earner Silent Sedition and stakes-placed Perfect World.

A half-sister by Dubai Destination to Group I Dubai World Cup winner Monterosso from Australian Group I winner Porto Roca, Fiorentina has a filly to follow by Merchant Navy and was covered by the champion son of Fastnet Rock again last year.

The second Fastnet Rock filly was offered by Newgate Farm and snapped up for $150,000 by Ciaron Maher Bloodstock again in partnership with Australian Bloodstock.

$150,000 Fastnet Rock filly from Insta Erma (USA)
She is the first foal of Group III winning and Group I placed import Insta Erma (USA), who is by American Pharoah’s sire Pioneerof the Nile.

Given the recent record of success from Newgate Farm’s imported mares from the US (think Russian Conquest and Miss Hellfire), this filly may well make a very savvy investment.

Her dam Insta Erma had a change of ownership last year with Kia Ora Stud purchasing her from the Newgate Consignment at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale for $800,000 in foal to Fastnet Rock.

She produced a filly for Kia Ora from that mating and was one of 189 mares covered by their young Golden Slipper winner Farnan in his first season at stud.
