Another Good Two-Year-Old for Epaulette as Troach Salutes at Randwick

Mark Smith - Wednesday February 2

Godolphin’s bold-striding Epaulette filly Troach landed her first win at start two when Tim Clark made an “executive decision” to take up the running in a 2yo maiden plate over 1100m on the Kensington track at Randwick on Wednesday.

Troach was having her first start in 14 weeks after finishing unplaced in the Kirkham Plate (1000m) at Randwick won by Ojai from Queen Of The Ball and Snitcat.

Keeping up a solid gallop, Troach put the race to bed at the 300m when displaying an impressive turn of foot. The Caravaggio debutant, Nolan, followed Troach in the run and after being dropped at the 250m rallied to get within a length of the winner. Troach’s stablemate, the Kermadec filly Victorine finished solidly to be a further one and a quarter lengths back in third.

Godolphin stable representative Darren Beadman said that Clark showed initiative in taking up the running.

“We instructed Tim to box seat, but I told him she is a big-striding filly and to work with her,” Beadman said.

‘When no-one was keen to take it up, Tim made an executive decision, she got into a lovely rhythm and showed a nice turn of foot.

“She was nice and relaxed in the run and has really improved from one prep to the next."

“Dizzy Appleby and the team are doing a tremendous job with the two-year-olds and hopefully there re bigger things in store down the track.”

A powerfully made daughter of the now Turkey-based stallion Epaulette, Troach is the third winner from as many to race out of the top-class General Nediym mare Anise.

Epaulette

Purchased by Darley for $600,000 from the Willow Park Stud draft at the 2010 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Anise numbered the Group III ATC Kindergarten Stakes among her five wins.

Anise is out of the Flying Spur mare Pimpinella, a three-quarter sister to the dual Hong Kong Horse of The Year and half to Group 1 winner Easy Rocking and triple Listed winner Crevette, dam of Group 1 winner Cosmic Endeavour.

Anise has a filly foal by Blue Point (IRE).

Epaulette has another very impressive two-year-old in Daumier, winner of the Listed Blue Diamond Preview at Caulfield on Australia Day.

Though he now stands in Turkey, there is still opportunities to snare a yearling by the son of Commands. He has eight on offer at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale beginning on Sunday.
