One To Watch - Stony Creek

Mark Smith - Tuesday February 1

The lone debutant in a 1600m maiden at Stony Creek on Tuesday, the 3yo Dundeel gelding Who Done The Deel came from near last to down his better fancied stablemate Sonofthebeast.

There was only tepid support for the Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young-trained gelding in a race that looked to set up perfectly for his well performed stalemate.

A son of Maurice (JPN), Sonofthebeast looked to have the race in his keeping when kicking well clear as they straightened.

Craig Newitt saved many lengths when electing to stick to the rails on the turn for home. He collared Sonofthebeast inside the 100m and went on to win by three-quarter of a length with a further two and a quarter lengths back to the More Than Ready (USA) filly Cavellita who made up many lengths to finish third.

Young admitted to being surprised that Who Done The Deel defeated his stablemate but did not doubt his ability.

uo;I said to the owners I think he will run a place, but he went one better,” Young said.

”It was a great ride by Froggy and he came from a far way back.

“(Sonofthebeast) will get one sooner or later, it’s just a shame he got beat by his stablemate, so sorry to those connections.

“He (Who Done The Deel) will step up to a class one or a 64 and hopefully can get another win so we can target a trip over further down the track like May in Adelaide or something like that.

“He has taken some time and had a few in and out preps.”

Newitt was also shocked by the win.

“He really surprised me,” Newitt said.

“His trials over 1000m and 1200m have been fair, nothing great. We came here today thinking he may run OK but didn’t think he could beat the stablemate.

“I think the best thing he did was to miss the kick because it forced me to ride him quiet. There was nice tempo in the race, and I thought the only chance was to ride him for a bit of luck.

“To his credit every time I poked his head into a run, he took it and was strong through the line.”

A $40,000 purchase by Raizzin Stable when offered by Misty Downs at the 2019 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale, the son of Dundeel was consigned by Woburn Farm to the 2020 NZB Yearling Sale at Karaka with Busuttin Racing signing the ticket at $110,000.

Who Done The Deel a $110,000 Karaka yearling

He is the third winner for the winning Commands mare Lady Who, which has a 2yo brother to Who Done The Deel that was purchased at the 2020 Inglis September (Early) Online Sale for just $22,500.

Out of the stakes-placed Gilded Time (USA) mare Another Time from the family of Presently, Serena Miss and New Predator, Lady Who has a Shalaa (IRE) colt in the Two Bays Farm draft at the Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale. (Lot 34).

The colt was a $90,000 pinhook by Kingsbarn at the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast National Weanling Sale.

Dundeel has 14 catalogued for the Classic Yearling Sale, 35 for the Premier, 33 for Easter, nine at Karaka and four for the Adelaide Magic Millions.
