Impressive Debut Winner for Merchant Navy

Tara Madgwick - Saturday January 22

Royal Ascot hero Merchant Navy posted his second winner with an impressive debut victory for the Phillip Stokes trained filly In the Navy.

A short priced favourite for the 1100m maiden at Gawler, In The Navy led all the way and dashed clear to win by more than a length.

In The Navy runs in the navy blue colours of Duncan Grimley, who races the filly in partnership with her other co-breeders.

She becomes the eighth winner from nine runners from exceptional producer Ennerdale (GB), whose winners include Group II winner Samara Dancer, Group III winner Éclair Big Bang, Group III placed Defiant Dancer and stakes-placed Dancer’s Kin.

In the Navy is the second winner for Merchant Navy.

Ennerdale was one of 127 mares covered last spring by Merchant Navy, who enjoyed good results at the recent Magic Millions Yearling Sale and has 19 yearlings entered for Inglis Classic.
