First Winner for Spieth

Mark Smith - Friday January 7

Aquis Farm’s Spieth is off the mark after the Adam Trinder-trained filly Jaguar Stone made a winning debut over 1000m at Hobart on Friday.

Ridden by 3kg apprentice Erica Byrne Burke, Jaguar Stone showed a nice turn of foot to take the lead at the 200m and despite laying in came clear to defeat the Decides filly Decisive Choice by two lengths with the Impending gelding Bold Instinct a half-length back in third.

Jaguar Stone was a $28,000 purchase by her trainer from the Berkeley Park Stud draft at the 2021 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale.

She is the third winner from five to race out of the unraced Tale Of The Cat (USA) mare Leopard Skin who is a daughter of the top-class, dual stakes-winner, La Chasseuse (Lion Hunter).

It was a timely win for Berkeley Park Stud who will off a Divine Prophet half-brother to Jaguar Stone on the final day of the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
