Juvenile Trial Watch – Rosehill

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday January 4

Four heats for juveniles at Rosehill on Tuesday morning produced some interesting winners including a $1.2million Written Tycoon colt carrying the colours of Spendthrift Australia, who announced last week their intention to discontinue their Australian breeding operation in Victoria.

Trained by Team Hawkes, Pyrois was ridden by Tommy Berry and scored a nose win over another Written Tycoon colt in Oriental Tycoon, the full brother to Group I winner Booker and stakes-winner Banquo.

Pyrois surged home after being allowed to find his feet early and there was barely a struck match between he and Oriental Tycoon. They ran the 900m in 54.47 seconds with two lengths back to the third horse.

Pyrois is the most expensive yearling colt by reigning champion sire Written Tycoon.

Pyrois was the most expensive yearling sold in 2021 by Written Tycoon and is his most expensive colt ever. He was bred and sold by Emirates Park at the Magic Millions and is a half-brother to three minor winners from Taqaseem, a placed half-sister by Medaglia D’Oro (USA) to Group I winner Sense of Occasion from the Asawir branch of the famed Easy Date family.

The fastest of the four heats was won by the Peter and Paul Snowden trained Zoustar colt Metallicity, who clocked 53.56 seconds in winning by half a length.

A $340,000 Inglis Easter purchase for China Horse Club / Newgate Bloodstock from the Segenhoe draft, Metallicity has had two trials now and won both of them so looks well and truly ready to go to the races.

He is a half-brother to Group III ATC Gimcrack Stakes winner Catch Me and three other winners being from well bred O’Reilly mare Captivating Claire.

Captivating Claire consistently produces stunning looking yearlings with three of her offspring outside of Catch Me all selling for $1million or more in the sale ring and while all of them have won, they are yet to achieve Black Type performance.

The other 2YO heat winners were: Allasandra (Pride of Dubai) and Cythera (I Am Invincible).
