Newhaven Bred and Sold Merriest Strikes Form

Flemington trainer Danny O'Brien will be looking at Black Type goals going forward for his talented Denman mare Merriest following her bold front running victory at Caulfield on Saturday.

A Listed winner last season at three, Merriest showed she was back to her best with a tenacious half neck win in the 1400 metre mares event that closed the program.

Merriest - Grant CourtneyA $210,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Newhaven draft for Barry and Jan McRostie, Merriest was bred and sold by Newhaven Park and was the most expensive filly of the year by her sire Denman.

She has proved a good investment winning four of 13 starts and over $290,000 in prizemoney with her Black Type victory and the promise of more to come making her a valuable broodmare for the future.

Merriest is the third foal and third winner out of the Melbourne winning Canny Lad mare Merrier a granddaughter of the top-class mare Scomeld, whose 12 wins included the Group I VRC Oaks.
