Frankel Filly a Savvy Investment

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday December 29

An interesting winner in Tasmania on Wednesday was blue-blooded Frankel filly Unclouded (GB), who was quietly snapped up from the 2021 Inglis September (Early) Online Sale for $65,000 by Tasmanian breeder Rob Dixon’s Reibey Lodge.

Trained by John Blacker, three year-old Unclouded was having her fourth start at Hobart and scored a half length win in the 1200m maiden providing a great result for her new owners.

The blueblood filly was bred by Fairway Thoroughbreds and is the first foal of their Group II placed Fastnet Rock mare Waterloo Sunset, who was sent to the UK to start her stud career with two coverings by 2021’s Champion European Sire Frankel.

The second foal from those two Frankel matings is two year-old filly Delaware Sky, who has been retained to race by Fairway Thoroughbreds and sent to Anthony and Sam Freedman to train. She has been entered for the 2022 Golden Slipper.

Returned to Australia in 2018, Waterloo Sunset has a yearling colt by Dundeel that was sold as a weanling at Magic Millions earlier this year for $34,000, but had no foal this year after missing to Zoustar.

A half-sister to Group I winner Invest from Group I winner Unearthly, Waterloo Sunset was covered this spring by Golden Slipper winner Farnan.

Frankel has enjoyed exceptional success in Australia siring 32 winners here, eight of them stakes-winners headed by Group I winners Hungry Heart, Converge and Mirage Dancer.
