Xtravagant's Lavish Girl Dominant at Flemington

Mark Smith - Saturday December 18

After three starts in stakes company, the three-year-old Xtravagant filly Lavish Girl appreciated the drop in class for Saturday’s Tab Trophy (1400m) at Flemington.

A last-start third in the Twilight Glow Stakes at Caulfield, Lavish Girl came clear under Teo Nugent to defeat the Puissance De Lune filly Luna Cat by one and a half-lengths with the Teofilo filly Honeycreeper a further length back in third.

Trained by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, Lavish Girl advances her record to two wins, a second, and a third from seven starts with earnings of $118,400.

“She got that all-important black-type last start, and she’s been ever so consistent,” Maher said.

“The team have done a great job with her and keeping her up.

“She’s been up for a fair while. It looked a really nice race for her on paper.

“Teo’s got a really good record on her. He gave her a beautiful ride, and you could see him waiting a long way down the straight before he gave her the full bore, and it was beautiful.

“It’s great to get a winner for Seymour Bloodstock and the Kellys being a daughter of Xtravagant. They seem to be pretty good racehorses, pretty straightforward to train. so hopefully, it is a sign of things to come.

“We’ll reset now as she has been ticking over for a while. She does seem to be holding her form very well. We’ll work it out, but she may stretch to a mile.”

Lavish Girl a $110,000 Inglis Classic yearling

Purchased by Ciaron Maher Racing for $110,000 from the Newhaven Park draft at the 2020 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, Lavish Girl is the first-named foal of the winning Snitzel mare Ends in Tears.

A half-sister to stakes-placed Snogging, Ends In Tears has a 2yo brother to Lavish Girl named Immodest, who Maher purchased for just $20,000 at this year’s Inglis Classic.

Xtravagant has four lots catalogued for the 2022 Inglis Classic and two aft the Magic Millions.
