Spirit Of Boom's Palazzo Spirit Too Slick in Phelan Ready

Mark Smith - Saturday December 11

The Spirit Of Boom colt Palazzo Spirit kept his record at a perfect two for two with a hard-fought win in Saturday’s Listed Eureka Stud Phelan Ready Stakes (1000m) at Eagle Farm.

Both his wins have been on his home track.

After beginning the best, Palazzo Spirit travelled sweetly for Baylee Nothdurft on the outside of the leader Inequality. Looking set for an easy win when bursting clear at the 250m, Palazzo Spirit was all out to hold the finish of the Exceed And Excel colt Hard To Say by a neck.

If there is one to follow from the race it is the Annabel Neasham-trained Pariah colt Swiss Exile. He bombed the start and tried to buck, before charging home for third a head behind Hard To Say.

Trained by Steven O'Dea and Matthew Hoysted, Palazzo Spirit was an $80,000 purchase by Jamie Walter’s Proven Thoroughbreds from the Westbury Stud draft at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

He is the first foal of the overachieving Conatus mare Palazzo Pubblico whose seven wins include the Listed Alinghi Stakes at Caulfield and Listed Bright Shadow Stakes at Doomben when trained by Matthew Smith.

Palazzo Pubblico has a yearling colt by Zoustar and a filly foal by Written Tycoon.

Palazzo Spirit is the 16th black-type winner for Eureka Stud’s Spirit Of Boom who has 41 lots catalogued for the Magic Millions and 14 at the Inglis Classic.
