Street Boss Filly Goes Coast to Coast on Debut

Mark Smith - Wednesday December 8

The Street Boss (USA) filly Bistro became the third generation winner for the Freedman stable when making all the running at her career debut over 1000m at Sandown-Hillside on Wednesday.

The connection goes back to the purchase by Darley of the Redoute’s Choice filly Estee for $2.1million at the 2007 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Trained by Lee Freedman, Estee earned black-type success in the Listed SAJC Adelaide Guineas.

Anthony and Lee Freedman trained Estee’s talented daughter Estaminet (Lonhro), a 6-time winner and the dam of Bistro.

With Jye McNeil in the saddle, Bistro led at every call to defeat the Gold Standard filly Golden Queen by a length, with a further three-quarter of a length back to the Churchill (IRE) filly Tanto in third.

“She has kept improving through the preparation. She has done everything right and all credit to her,” co-trainer Sam Freedman said.

“She can get a bit hot, but we have her under wraps, and the stable at Pinecliff and Flemington have done a good job.

“We expected her to run well. You never quite know with these two-year-olds, they are here one minute gone the next.

“We have a nice connection with the family. Lee and Anthony trained the granddam and dam, so maybe one day we will get one out of her.

“We will give her a let-up now and give her a chance in a (Blue Diamond) Preview or something like that. She will have to stretch out in trip. Although she was a bit green and new, she has a good brain and might be better with a sit. Her trials suggest she might be better with something to chase, and there is good improvement.”

Bistro is the first foal of Estaminet (Lonhro), who won six and placed in seven of her 21 starts with earnings of $186,145.

Her stakes-winning dam Estee is a daughter of the top-class RTycoon Lil (Last Tycoon), whose eight wins included the Group 1 STC Canterbury Guineas, Group 1 WRC New Zealand Oaks, and Group 1 CJC 1000 Guineas.

Estaminethas a yearling colt by Brazen Beau and a filly foal by Frosted (USA).
