Trainer Chris Meagher said the Group I Myer Classic at Flemington is the ultimate goal for Savanna Amour after the four-year-old crossed from a wide draw to lead most of the way.

Ridden clear around the home turn by Brad Rawiller, Savanna Amour ($15) stayed on to defeat the luckless pair of Legless Veuve ($16) and Ravi ($2.90) by a short head and a nose.

Savanna Amour is the first winner for trainer Chris Meagher in his own right following the retirement of his father, Melbourne Cup-winning trainer John.

"It was a great ride by Brad, we said from that barrier you just have to bounce her out and go forward - if you lead you lead, if not you slot in," Meagher said.

"We knew she'd give a good kick when she had to and she loves Caulfield."

The last two winners of the race better known as the How Now Stakes in Secret Agenda and Politeness went on to win at Group I level, Politeness taking the Myer Classic in 2015.

Meagher said the Myer Classic over 1600m at the Flemington spring carnival was the main aim for the daughter of Love Conquers All.

"The Myer (Classic) is the race we'd like to win and we'll step her up to 1400m next time," Meagher said.

"We'll just see how she is before we decide which race we go to next."
