First Stakes Win for Spirit Of Boom's Miami Fleiss

Mark Smith - Saturday December 4

The third leg of a 4-timer for champion trainer Tony Gollan, Black Soil Bloodstock’s Miami Fleiss opened her stakes account in Saturday’s Listed Eureka Stud Classic (1200m) at Doomben.

It was a stunning result for the sponsor who consigned the daughter of Spirit Of Boom to the 2019 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale and will offer a half-brother by Encryption to the upcoming sale at the Gold Coast in January.

With Stephanie Thornton in the saddle, Miami Fleiss defeated Eloquently (Poet’s Voice) by three-quarters of a length with Kisukano (Bel Esprit) a neck back in third.

“To be honest, the race did not pan out as I expected,” Gollan said.

“There was a lot more tempo than I expected. Once she got her one off and was following Lyrical Girl and had a bit of cover, Steph produced her at the right time.

“It was an eleven out of ten from a very awkward position.

“We are trying to head to Magic Millions day. There are two 1300m races there that would really suit her.

“She is not the speedy squib she once was. If anything, she has lost a bit of that early speed, but she has that good finishing burst.

“She is a stakes winner now and has done a great job.”

Passed in short of her $60,000 reserve at the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale, Miami Fleiss advances her record to five wins and a second from seven starts with earnings of $372,600.

A sister to the stakes-placed Cochrane, the sparingly raced four-year-old is out of the winning Excites mare Madame Fly.

A half-sister to Group III winner Chapter And Verse, Madame Fly died shortly after foaling a sister to Miami Fleiss on October 7.

Miami Fleiss is the 15th stakes-winner for Eureka Stud’s Spirit Of Boom who has 41 lots catalogued for the Magic Millions and 14 entered for the Inglis Classic.
