Elite Street Steps Up to Millionaire Class

Mark Smith - Saturday November 13

The Dan Morton-trained Street Boss (USA) gelding Elite Street took his earnings to over $1million following a dominant performance in Saturday’s Group III Euroz Hartleys-Colonel Reeves Stakes (1100m) at Ascot.

With just two runners behind him when straitening up for the run home, the 5yo gelding launched down the centre of the track under Brad Rawiller.

The Bob and Sandra Peters colour-bearer Graceful Girl (Nicconi) came from last to get within three-quarters of a length of Elite Street, with the outsider Long Beach (I Am Invincible) a short neck back in third.

It was the third consecutive Stakes win for Elite Street, advancing his record to eight wins and a second in 16 starts with earnings of $1,031,380.

The Street Boss (USA) gelding is a short-priced favourite to defend his title in the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes in a fortnight.

Earlier in the day, Dan Morton captured the Group III R J Peters Stakes (1500m) with the Written Tycoon mare Kissonallforcheeks.

“I couldn’t be prouder of the team at the moment. My staff are second to none,” Morton said.

“I was keen to get another gallop into him, so we don’t have to do too much. He is at a good level of fitness now, and it will just be maintenance to get him through, hopefully in one piece for the big race.

“He won against the pattern and had to carry a big weight, so there was plenty to like about that win.”

Elite Street is a homebred for Anita Vale Stud’s Robert Anderson, who races the son of Street Boss (USA) with Dan Morton’s parents Len and Annette Morton.

Retained to race following x-ray issues as a yearling, Elite Street is the best of two winners from four to race out of the 5-time winning Exceed And Excel mare Elite Ateates, a daughter of the crack racemare Ateates.

A daughter of Zeditave, Ateates numbered four wins at Group II level, AJC Silver Shadow Stakes, Expressway Stakes, MVRC Champagne Stakes, and SAJC Yallambee Classic, among her six wins, and placed in the Group 1 SAJC Goodwood Hcp.

Elite Ateates has a 2yo Dundeel filly named Bonnie Gladys, a yearling Written By colt and foaled a colt by Spendthrift Stud’s Omaha Beach (USA) on October 12.

After eleven seasons in Victoria, Street Boss (USA) is serving his first book of mares at Darley Stud’s Hunter Valley property at Aberdeen at a fee of $55,000.
