NZB Announces March Sale Dates for Karaka 2022

Media Release - Wednesday November 3

Due to the uncertainty surrounding the ongoing pandemic, New Zealand Bloodstock has today announced that its 2022 National Yearling Sales Series will be postponed to the later date of March.

The following dates have been confirmed for Karaka 2022:

Book 1 Sale:  Sunday 6 - Tuesday 8 March, commencing 11am (NZT) each day.
Book 2 Sale:  Wednesday 9 - Friday 11 March, commencing 11am (NZT) each day.
Please note that the 2022 Karaka Million Twilight meeting held at Ellerslie will remain at the current date of 22 January.

NZB’s Managing Director Andrew Seabrook commented on the decision to move the Sale.

“With still so much uncertainty regarding COVID-19, we believe moving Karaka 2022 to March is in the best interests of the Sale.”

“While the domestic border between Auckland and the Waikato remains in a fragile state and although it is likely to be open come January next year, it could be shut down at a moment’s notice.

“Even if the regional border is open, in order to hold an event at Karaka with more than 100 people in attendance, Auckland is required to be in the green stage of the government-imposed ‘traffic light system’. At present, this looks doubtful,” Seabrook said.

NZB anticipants the opening of New Zealand’s border to Australia by March, in time for Karaka 2022.

“Our friends across the Tasman have signalled to us that they will be here in force should the border be open, so we remain hopeful that double vaccinated Australian’s will be permitted to travel to Karaka by March.”

“We are obviously extremely keen to give them every opportunity to be at Karaka 2022,” Seabrook said.
