Juvenile Trial Watch – Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Friday October 29

Three heats for juveniles at the Randwick trials on Friday morning with winners for I Am Invincible, Pierro and Shalaa (IRE).

The first heat was run over 1045m with I Am Invincible filly Ebhaar an impressive winner for the Peter and Paul Snowden stable.

She covered ground back in the field and was the widest runner turning for home but surged to the post under a hold to win by half a length.

A homebred for Emirates Park, Ebhaar is a half-sister to Group III placed Shotmaker and is from Maroon Bay, a metro winning three-quarter sister by Exceed and Excel to Group I winner Merchant Navy, Group II winner Jolie Bay and stakes-winner Setanta.

The next two juvenile heats were run over 735m with the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Pierro filly Uncorked turning in a professional effort.

She jumped quickly to take a position and was then headed in the run to the line, but when asked to change gear she did so and moved clear to win by a length.

A $130,000 Magic Millions purchase for Gai Waterhouse/Adrian Bott/Kestrel Thoroughbreds from the Willow Park draft, Uncorked runs for Steve Grant.

She is the second foal of a winning half-sister by Iffraaj (GB) to the dams of Champion 3YO Xtravagant, Group winners Flying Mascot and He’s Remarkable as well as stakes-winners Exclusive Lass and Koala Bear.

The next winner was the Mark Newnham trained Shalaa (IRE) filly Seven Veils, who mustered speed well to hold the fence and settle second before giving chase to the leader over the final furlong to win by a neck.

Retained to race by her breeders, Seven Veils is a half-sister to two winners from a metro winning Redoute’s Choice mare, whose immediate family is barren of Black Type, but her third dam is Group I winner Copperama.

Other branches of this family have proved wildly successful producing Group I winners Danendri, Faint Perfume, Bonham, Danestorm, Hong Kong Derby winner furore and current star staying mare She’s Ideel.
