Australian Bloodstock Ramp It Up on Day 2 Tattersalls Autumn Horses In Training Sale.

Mark Smith - Wednesday October 27

After the purchase of a single lot on Day 1, Australian Bloodstock ramped things up considerably on Day 2 of the Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale, signing for a further four lots.

In association with Ronald Rauscher, Australian Bloodstock went to 75,000gns for the grey New Approach gelding Baltic Coast (lot 137) on the opening day. The lightly race 3yo has been placed twice. His dam stakes-placed dam Kurland hails from the family of multiple Group II winner Super Cash (Written Tycoon).

The most expensive Australian Bloodstock purchase on Day 2 was 160,000gns for (lot 574) the 3yo Gleneagles gelding Glentaneous who did the right thing by the vendor by winning over 10f at Nottingham two weeks back. That was his second win in nine starts having won on the all-weather at Lingfield in February for trainer Brian Meehan. His dam, Spontaneous, is a sister to dual Group 1 winner Youmzain and a half to Group 1 Lockinge Stakes winner Creachadoir and Group III winner Shreyas.

As an aside, Glentaneous’ well-performed half-brother Makram (Make Believe) (lot 721) is another likely to be heading to Australia after the gavel fell at 340,000gns to the bid of Blandford Bloodstock. The winner of four and runner-up in four of his 11 starts, Makram won at his most recent start at Newbury on September 17.

Another son of Gleneagles, the 4yo gelding Kettle Hill (lot 655), was purchased for 150,000gns. Winner of three of his eight starts for William Haggas, Kettle Hill won over a mile at Sandown on September 10, before finishing third, as favourite, over a mile at Goodwood twelve day later. Kettle Hill is out of the stakes-winning Danehill Dancer mare Sentaril, a daughter of the champion 2yo filly in Europe in 2000, Superstar Leo.

Another 4yo gelding to go the way of Australian Bloodstock at a cost of 135,000gns was Turn On The Charm (lot 641). The son of Charm Spirit has won three of his 13 starts and was most recently second over a mile at Goodwood.

Just 40,000gns was needed to purchase (lot 675) the 3yo Kingman colt King Capella who has placed at his only two starts for sir Michael Stoute.

Another on the scoreboard on Day 2 was Ontrack Thoroughbreds who teamed up with Blandford Bloodstock to purchase the 4yo Muhaarar gelding Without Revenge (lot 719) for 100,000gns. Trained by Roger Charlton, Without Revenge has had wins at Lingfield and Newmarket in an 11-start career to date.

After two purchases on the opening day, Ciaron Maher teamed up with Cunningham Thoroughbreds and Lynch Clarke to purchase the 4yo Rock of Gibraltar (IRE) gelding Strawberry Rock (lot 737) for 185,000gns. The winner of three and placed in four of his nine starts, the Hugo Palmer-trained gelding has been a model of consistency this year, winning at Winsor before seconds at Newmarket and Thirsk and was most recently third over a mile and a half at Goodwood.

On the opening day, Maher, in association with Blandford Bloodstock, purchased Shadwell Estate’s 4yo Dubawi gelding Montather (lot 280) for 140,000gns, and the 3yo Camelot gelding Camelot Tales (lot 268) for 42,000gns. A 3-time winner from eight starts, Montather hails from the family of Shadwell’s champion filly Shadayid, while Camelot Tales has wins at Redcar and Ayr from nine starts.

Trent Busuttin had the final say at 170,000gns for the 4yo Siyouni gelding Bonneval (lot 640). From the family of former Widden Stud shuttler, Barathea, Bonneval has been a most consistent performer for James Fanshawe, winning three and placing in five of his nine starts.
