Ones to Watch – Curragh

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday October 26

The two year-old fillies maiden at The Curragh in Ireland overnight was expected to produce a debut victory for blue blood Galileo filly Toy, a sister to four Group I winners, but the victory went to a daughter of Almanzor (Fr).

The latest runner for blue hen You’resothrilling, who has left  seven stakes horses, all by Galileo headed by Gleneagles, Happily, Joan of Arc and Marvellous, Toy was a warm favourite for the 7f maiden.

The Aiden O’Brien trained filly ran well, but not well enough to beat Dissociate, who drew clear for an easy three and a half length win.

Trained by Paddy Twomey, Dissociate was second on debut at the Curragh and then pulled up lame after her next unplaced start in June.

Given a little break after that she returned her and scored a dominant win.

“We ran her back too soon after her first run on ground that was too quick and paid the price,” said Paddy Twomey.

“I’m delighted she freshened up and she’s back here today and showed what she can do.”

Bought for £62,000 by her trainer at the Goffs Yearling Sale at Doncaster, Dissociate is the first winner for Party Animal, a placed half-sister by Makfi to Group II winner Observational.

She is the seventh first crop winner for Almanzor in the Northern Hemisphere with two of those winners being stakes horses Saving Grace and Queen Trezy.

A champion son of Wootton Bassett, Almanzor shuttles to Cambridge Stud and his oldest progeny here are two year-olds..

The two year-old fillies maiden over 6f also produced an interesting winner in Brazen Beau filly Belle Fourche, who is from an Aussie bred mare in Adhere.

Having her second start, Belle Fourche scored a neck win over the favourite New York City (Invincible Spirit) earning high praise for the effort.

"She's definitely a filly who will have no problem getting Black Type," said winning rider Leigh Roche.

Belle Fourche is the first winner for Adhere, who was bred in Australia by Emirates Park and is by Teofilo (IRE).  She won twice at the Sunshine Coast and was exported to the UK in March 2017.

Adhere is one of six winners from blue-blooded import Constance (IRE), an unraced Machiavellian mare from Group II winner LA Confederation, whose dam is Epsom and Irish Oaks winner Unite.

Adhere went through the 2018 Goffs Breeding Stock Sale where she made 8,000 euros to the bid of Francis Finnegan, who is one of the co-breeder owners of Belle Fourche.

Constance still has a couple of other daughters at stud in Australia so the progress of Belle Fourche will be of interest to their owners.
