Rosemont Move on Extreme Warrior

Media Release - Monday October 25

Rosemont Stud is thrilled to announce a majority interest has been secured in brilliant colt Extreme Warrior, dominant last start winner of the Group III MRC Blue Sapphire Stakes at Caulfield and market favourite for the prestigious, $1.5m Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes this Saturday at Flemington.

Extreme Warrior blitzes his rivals in the G3 Blue Sapphire .

A lightly raced colt by the reigning Champion First Season Sire, Extreme Choice, Extreme Warrior demonstrated his natural ability at two with fast finishing runner up efforts in both the Debutante Stakes on debut and Blue Diamond Preview.

Principal Anthony Mithen described securing Extreme Warrior as ‘another momentous step’ in the journey of the Victorian operation which has been a major player in the yearling market in 2021 via the newly established colts’ partnership, Victorian Alliance.

“I can’t begin to describe how excited we are to increase our interest in a horse with such obvious Group One talent and appeal of Extreme Warrior. He’s a stunning physical with tremendous power and quality not to mention he’s by a freakish young stallion who has sired a Golden Slipper winner in his first crop and going at a ridiculous 23% SW/R’s,” said Mithen.

Additionally, Extreme Warrior is from an outstanding family deep in individual stakes-winners.

Rosemont have enjoyed great success with this family having raced the stakes winning half-sister THRILLSTER, stakes placed FREE THRILLS and own the 2yo half-sister by I Am Invincible purchased from the Inglis Easter sales for $1.2m out of the Glenlogan Park draft.

Trainer Mick Price added it was great to see the colt’s future assured and particularly satisfying being a son of Extreme Choice.

Extreme Choice is showing all the signs of being an exceptional stallion.

“Whilst he is a bigger colt, Extreme Warrior shares a lot of similarities to his sire Extreme Choice who we also trained. Both colts can really let rip off a hot speed and that is a unique trait when racing at the elite level. Extreme Warrior was one of our most precocious 2yo’s last season and has developed into a beautifully furnished, high quality sprinter with a real toughness about him. He’s an exceptional colt and delighted for Rosemont - one of Australia’s real emerging operations - who will no doubt give him every chance to emulate the incredible success of his sireline,” said Price.

Mithen pointed to the high level of stable confidence and elite rating figures as the key factors in taking up a majority interest.

“Both Mick’s (Price and Kent Jnr) have been glowing about this horse for some time but certainly the feedback from a ratings point of view post the Blue Sapphire gave us real confidence that this is a colt with genuine Group One class and ability. We are obviously excited for not only this Saturday but also next preparation as an autumn 3yo.

“Respected analyst, Daniel O’Sullivan of the Ratings Bureau tweeted after the Blue Sapphire ‘Extreme Warrior rated an elite 104.5. A Super performance. He’ll be very hard to beat in the Coolmore if he can reproduce something close to that.’

“He profiles as a real proper colt. The ratings, pedigree and performance support this and we’re simply over the moon to race him with both current and new partners and ultimately stand him alongside the likes of Victoria’s best stallions, SHAMUS AWARD & STARSPANGLEDBANNER here at Rosemont,” added Mithen.
