Shannon Stakes analysis

Clinton Payne - Friday September 22

The Racenet Speedmaps and form analysts have combined to give punters a leg-up in the $200,000 Group II Shannon Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on Saturday.

Racenet's Speedmaps spokesman Greg Polson said this has the potential to be a muddlingly run race with one stable looking to dominate the speed.

"I'm expecting Bjorn Baker's mares Lubiton and Imposing Lass to take up the running and I doubt they'll be keen to do the backmarkers any favours," Polson said.

"The queries on the map are how they ride Good Project from the wide gate and how close does Dark Eyes settle?

"Washington Heights beat Dawn Wall last start but the barrier draw means this time he's likely to be spotting her a start.

"Intriguing race that could become a real tactical affair."

Corporate bookie Ladbrokes are offering $3.10 for the favourite Washington Heights, $3.50 Dawn Wall, $6 Imposing Lass, $7 Euro Angel, $7.50 Lubiton, $14 Good Project with the other runners at $21 or better.

"Our ratings indicate this is a more open race than the market would suggest," Racenet form analyst Cameron Happ said.

"There's three formlines to be taken seriously and the way the race will be run should be factored into assessments.

"We've priced Washington Heights on top ahead of Dawn Wall but we believe they are under the odds coming out of a benchmark 95 race.

"Imposing Lass ran in the Tibbie last time but here she gets a considerable weight drop and looks to get favours on the map.

"The other chances are Euro Angel and Good Project coming out of the Theo Marks.

"The value in the race on Saturday is Good Project. He's better suited under handicap conditions, maps well and can improve sharply.

"Using the Ladbrokes Odds Boost you can lock in $18 for Good Project and that's worth a little stab."
