Mark Smith - Sunday October 17

Dance Music took a step closer to joining the millionaires club following a fighting win in Saturday’s feature at Ascot, the Group III Northerly Stakes (1400m).

In a thrilling two-horse war, the 6yo daughter of War Chant (USA) edged the gallant Massimo (Sessions) by a short-head.

The favourite Valour Road (Frost Giant) was a length further back in third.

It was the fifth black-type success for Dance Music advancing her record to twelve wins, four seconds, and seven thirds from 28 starts, with earnings of $981,695.

It has been nine starts since the Simon Miller-trained mare finished further back than third, which came in the Group 1 Railway Stakes in November last year.

The Neven Botica and Matthew Sandblom homebred is the first foal of Fast Flowing (Dubawi).

A winner at Ascot, Fast Flowing was a $1000,000 Karaka yearling purchase by the late Bart Cummings. Her dam Deutsche (Quest for Fame) is a Sydney-winning sister to the Listed MRC Debutant Stakes The Rhine.

Simon Miller purchased Fast Flowing’s Deep Field colt for $100,000 from the Willow Dale Farm draft at the 2021 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale.

The daughter of Dubawi was not covered in 2019 and missed to both Territories (IRE) and Brutal in 2020.

The royally-bred War Chant (Danzig x Hollywood Wildcat by Storm Cat) stands at Yarrandale Stud at a fee of $11,000.
