Street Boss gelding Elite Street back to winning ways in Crawford Stakes

Mark Smith - Sunday October 17

The five-year-old Street Boss (USA) gelding Elite Street chalked up his first win since last year’s Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes in the Listed RS Crawford Stakes (1000m) at Ascot on Saturday.

Making his first appearance in twenty weeks, the Dan Morton-trained gelding did not measure up to the best sprinters in the Eastern States earlier this year.

Elite Street failed to place behind Nature Strip in the Lightning Stakes, Zoutori in the Newmarket Hcp, and Masked Crusader in the William Reid Stakes.

He returned home to finish a luckless second in the Group III Roma Cup but was never a factor when unplaced in the Group III Belmont Sprint in May.

Ridden by Brad Rawiller, Elite Street defeated the 12yo Redoute’s Choice gelding Rock Magic by three-quarters of a length, with the 7yo Written Tycoon gelding Stageman a half-head back in third.

A homebred for Anita Vale Stud’s Robert Anderson, Elite Street advances his record to six wins and a second from 14 starts with earnings of $848,580.

Anderson races the son of Street Boss (USA) with Dan Morton’s parents Len and Annette Morton.

Retained to race following x-ray issues as a yearling, Elite Street needed to have bone chips removed early in his career.

He is the best of two winners from as many to race out of the 5-time winning Exceed And Excel mare Elite Ateates, a daughter of the crack racemare Ateates.

A daughter of Zeditave, Ateates numbered four wins at Group II level, AJC Silver Shadow Stakes, Expressway Stakes, MVRC Champagne Stakes, and SAJC Yallambee Classic, among her six wins, and placed in the Group 1 SAJC Goodwood Hcp.

Elite Ateates has a 2yo Dundeel filly named Bonnie Gladys, a yearling Written By colt and recently foaled a colt by Spendthrift Stud’s Omaha Beach (USA).
