UPDATED Wind postpones Caulfield meeting

Darryl Sherer - Saturday July 29

Gale force winds have forced the Caulfield meeting on Saturday to be postponed after four races.

Loading of horses in the fourth race took several minutes as the barrier stalls were moving in the wind and stewards called jockeys scheduled to ride in the fifth race in to discuss the situation with wind gusting up to 60 kilometre per hour.

Jockeys narrowly voted not to ride and stewards were left with no option but to call the remainder of the meeting off with the horses for the fifth race saddled and in the mounting yard.

Chairman of Stewards for the day Robert Cram emerged from the meeting to explain the rest of the card was being postponed due to safety concerns.

The Melbourne Racing Club has re-scheduled the Group III Bletchingly Stakes to be run at Sandown Lakeside next Sunday,  with the remainder of this Saturday's card to be raced at Sandown on August 6 or Flemington next Saturday, August 5.
