G1 Thousand Guineas Sale Mail and Pedigree

Tara Madgwick - Monday October 11

Stakes racing at Caulfield on Wednesday features four Black Type events highlighted by the Group I MRC Thousand Guineas (1600m) featuring 13 fillies all vying for their first Group I win and they are a diverse bunch on pedigree.

Two fillies share favouritism on TAB and they are Hinged, who was a close second to Never Been Kissed in the Group I ATC Flight Stakes and Zouzarella, who couldn’t catch Queen of Dubai in the Listed Jim Moloney Stakes at her last start.

Queensland bred Hinged is from the first crop of Clear Mountain Fairview’s Choisir stallion Worthy Cause and a win for her will be a game changer for him, while Zouzarella is looking to push the boundary for champion sire Zoustar, who has only sired one Australian stakes-winner (Kiku)  to win at 1600m and none beyond that in Australia.

Next in the market is progressive Barb Raider, who is shooting for her third consecutive win after a dominant victory in the Oaks Trial at Flemington.

Barb Raider is by dual Derby winner Rebel Raider from a mare by Eduardo’s sire Host and while there are no stakes-winners in her first three generations, but that all changes when you go back a bit further and uncover fifth dam Cassie, whose descendants include the phenomenally successful ‘Discreet’ family that has produced countless stakes-winners. The late Rebel Raider is yet to sire a Group I winner.

The Group II VRC Edward Manifold Stakes winner Elusive Express is in top form and this Kiwi bred is looking to become the second Group I winner for her sire Jakkalberry (IRE), best known as the sire of triple Derby winner Explosive Jack.
