First New Season 2YO Winner for Shalaa

Tara Madgwick - Sunday October 10

A two year-old maiden at Hawkesbury on Sunday proved that race experience is invaluable with the first two home both coming out of the recent Group III ATC Gimcrack Stakes and Group III ATC Breeders Plate.

The winner was the Clarry Conners trained Shalaa (IRE) filly Okami Miss, who could only finish tenth in the Gimcrack, but this time around knew exactly what was going on and charged to the line after travelling behind the leaders to win by half a neck over One Destiny (Super One), who was eleventh in the Breeders Plate.

A $60,000 Magic Millions Weanling Sale purchase from the Bell River Thoroughbreds draft for Samuel Robinson, Okami Miss is the first winner from She’s Our Choice, a half-sister by Duporth to dual Group I winner and champion sire Extreme Choice.

Okami Miss was bred and sold by Bell River Thoroughbreds.

Okami Miss is the first two year-old winner of the season for Arrowfield Stud’s Shalaa, who stands at a fee of $44,000.
