Yulong - Freedmans - Danny O'Brien on the Board Day 2 at Tattersalls

Mark Smith - Thursday October 7

The bottle green with white and green checked sleeves colours of the Yuesheng Zhang-owned Yulong Stud are an increasingly familiar sight on European racecourses.

In search for another Lucky Vega (IRE), Yulong, in association with the BBA Ireland, signed for two colts on day two of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.

The first was 115,000gns for a powerfully built chestnut son of Shamardal (USA) from the draft of Gestuet Faehrhof, Germany. (lot 221)

His unraced dam Quariana (Lomitas) is a sister to the Group III Deauville Prix de Psyché winner Quilanga out of Quebrada (IRE), the Champion 2yr old filly in Germany in 1992, Champion 3yr old filly in Germany in 1993.

The second Yulong purchase on the day was a deal more expensive.

It needed an unanswered bid of 410,000gns to secure Newsells Park Stud's bay colt by Dubawi (GB). (lot 287)

He is the second foal of the top-class racemare Spectre (Siyouni), winner of the Group III Prix Imprudence and placed in the Group 1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp and Group 1 Prix Jean Prat.

From the family of Group III Geelong Cup and Listed Sandown Cup winner Ibicenco, the Dubawi colt is a half-brother to the Galileo colt that made 450gns at this sale last year.

Anthony and Sam Freedman teamed up with Julian Blaxland and Stephen Hillen to secure a colt by Santa Ana Lane's sire Lope De Vega (IRE) for 220,000gns. (lot 188)

Consigned by Ballylinch Stud, the colt is the second foal of the stakes-placed Oasis Dream mare Pacharana.

The dam of Pacharana, Cascata (Montjeu), is a sister to 6-time Group 1 winner, St Nicholas Abbey.

Danny O'Brien has enjoyed tremendous success with European-breds, including the dual Group 1 winner Russian Camelot (IRE).

In association with Jeremy Brummitt, O'Brien signed for a Frankel colt. (lot 258)

From the Castlebridge Consignment, the sturdy bay drew a final bid of 160,000gns.

He is a son of the top-class Born To Sea mare Sea Of Grace, winner of the Group III Flams Of Tara Stakes at the Curragh and runner-up in the Group 1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches at Deauville.
