Kermadec is best known as the sire of triple Group I winner Montefilia, but he is also the sire of the first heat winner for Baker in promising colt Midori Fuji.

He jumped well to cross and find the fence and led all the way from there to win by a length over Pride of Dubai filly Euphrates Dream with Base of Fire, a colt by Aquis Farm’s first season sire Invader, a distant third some six lengths back.

A $150,000 Inglis Classic Highway session purchase from the Wentwood Grange draft, Midori Fuji was the equal highest priced yearling by his sire sold in 2021 and is the third foal from Beautiful Sister, a full sister to Group III winner Beautiful Girl and grand-daughter of Group I winner Round the World.

The second heat went to Flying Artie filly Flying Shelly, who mustered speed impressively from the gates to power through on the inside to lead and kicked well clear after turning for home.

She was entitled to get tired late and was held together on the line, but had enough left to win by half a length over Written Tycoon colt Forms of Fear with another Invader youngster In Love and War getting into third place.

Flying Shelly was an $80,000 Inglis Weanling Sale purchase from the Luskin Park draft and is a half-sister to stakes-winner Kentucky Miss from imported US stakes-winner Twelve Pack Shelly.
