German Raider Wins Arc

Tara Madgwick - Sunday October 3

The Group I Longchamp Arc de Triomphe (2400m) produced an upset result overnight with German bred and trained four year-old  Taquorto Tasso proving too good for the Aga Khan’s quality mare Tarnawa

The Marcel Weiss trained four year-old son of Adlerflug scored a three-quarter length win over the Shamardal mare with the well favoured Godolphin colts Hurricane Lane and Adayar in third and fourth place.

A two time Group I winner in Germany and second in the German Derby last year, Taquorto Tasso has the overall record of five wins and four placings from 11 starts.

His owner Gestut Auenquelle bought Torquator Tasso for just €24,000 at BBAG in October 2018 and the colt is the best of three winners from Tijuana, whose grand-dam Turbaine is a half-sister to none other than Arc winner and blue hen Urban Sea, the dam of Galileo and Sea the Stars.

Torquator Tasso is one of five Group I winners and 20 stakes-winners by Adlerflug, a German Derby winning son of In the Wings that died earlier this year at age 17.
