Wind Operation Required for Remarque

Tara Madgwick - Monday September 27

The Group I ATC Golden Rose last Saturday produced some great runs for a number of colts outside of the winner In the Congo and runner-up Anamoe, but sadly not high profile Snitzel colt Remarque, who beat one runner home.

Team Hawkes confirmed to Racing NSW stewards on Monday that an endoscopic examination revealed an upper respiratory abnormality in Remarque that would require surgery to fix and he was now scheduled for tie back surgery.

The finding backs up Hugh Bowman’s port race assessment, “He’s a beautiful athlete, but he just can’t breathe.”

Remarque was placed in both the Listed ATC Rosebud and Group II ATC Run to the Rose, but will not race again this spring.

A son of champion sire Snitzel bred and retained to race by Arrowfield Stud, Remarque is a full brother to Golden Slipper winner Estijaab.

Remarque is from dual Group I winner Response, who has a yearling colt by Snitzel and is due to foal again to the champion sire.
